What is it??

Cystic fibrosis is a recessive genetic disease that affects approximately
30000 children and young adults in the world

 Are there any Symptoms??

Symptoms
salty-tasting skin
poor appitite
wheezing, caughing or phnemonia
weight gain
.

What does it do??

*A defective gene causes the body to produce a thick mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to lung infections

* The thick mucosa also obstructs the pancreas which slows down the breakdown and absorption of food in the intestines.



Interesting facts about CF....


* More then 10,000 Americans carry the gene and do not know it.
* Both parents must have the gene for the baby to have CF
*1000 new cases are diagnosed each year
* The standard test to diagnose CF is called the SWEAT TEST
* There are 117 care centers in the united states to care for patients with CF




Diagnosis:

The gold standard test to diagnose a patient with CF is the sweat test.  This test can be done on any one of any age but it is harder on infants becuase they do not sweat as much.
